Chhichhore - a rant
If you have watched Chhichhore, please pardon me when I say this: wash your eyes with scenes from Dil Chahta Hai (what a wonderful movie with a believable story line). The premise of the movie Chhichhore, speaks of an IIT aspirant unable to bear failure and taking the extreme step of suicide; he slips into coma and his parents (Anni and Maya) doing the most atrocious thing to keep his zeal to live, alive: talking of their past and a reunion. The premise seemed like an improved version of Student of the Year where Rishi Kapoor gathers everyone to meet him before his last breath. Oh, sure SOTY is set in a galaxy far far away where everyone is party-ready and sings atrocious remix songs at the drop of the hat, and Chhichhore seems closer to reality and yet, seems far from it. And yes, it is not all that bad when compared to movies by KJo who directed movies about college and reunions wearing neon-tinted glasses and drinking some concoction that steered him from reality and logic.
However, Chhichhore can boast of strong side kicks like Acid, Mummy, Bevda, Derek and Raggie who keep the movie alive and despite its flaws (why does the hall of fame board speak of intra-hostel matches and not inter-college or intra-college and after a certain point, it seemed like Sushant Singh Rajput and team were the baddies than the ones cast to play so). They perform tricks to distract rather than focusing on winning the "prestigious" GC.
The best part was the climax though when the kid realises that life is about life and not marks and other pressures. I enjoyed that part as we hear of student suicides often these days and the movie could be an eye opener for many parents who pressure kids. The movie cast is a cheerleader for those who need a ladder for hope when they lose in life. And that's the takeaway that I liked.
