Image
/ode to my aunt, Sridevi/ Read and pass on is an initiative that I started on my blog (nnivedita.com). It grew into being a library at Our Sacred Space, as well. Today, as we stand at the begining of a new month with renewed hopes, we invite you to pick this book by mailing your details (name, postal address, contact number): mailnnivedita@gmail.com Subject: RAPO - Feb 2018 ** Also, I would like to invite you to the launch of our Book Cafe in April 2018. My book 'Kisna's Katha' will be launched too. Details will be available on request.

Mistakes people like

I beleive, we are imperfect, despite that glass-hour figure or that beefy body (for men); we all are subject to trauma, stress and life gives us multiple opportunities to overcome it. I agree that failure is easier said than subjected to. Seeing your opponent win, while you wallow in your grief, expectations and thoughts for that winning speech. I failed, an embarrassing number of times. Rather, my experiments with life failed.Like Thomas A. Edison said: “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” Similarly, my most memorable one is: my quarterly examination - ninth grade - one subject. My Mom and Dad helped me make me a better failure by allowing me to make newer mistakes. They ensured I get the grip on my life by letting me be me. I took tuition, I asked my seniors, classmates, brothers, for help and ensured that I stand on my feet and I received a Distinction in Tenth. That was my first achievement in the field of academics. Since then, li...

Rama and Ramaa

Rama opened his steel tiffin box and sat on the broken bench in Indira Park. The blueish red sky reminded him of Ayesha. Her tender fingers that cut the lean meat with the sturdy butcher’s knife on Sunday mornings. Ramaa stared at Rama’s beard that had a streak of grey. “You are growing old, Rama,” Ramaa commented, pushing her hair, rough as colgate toothbrush bristles, behind her hair. “Old enough to marry you?” Rama said, pushing himself closing to her. “Get lost,” Ramaa said, punching Rama’s shoulder. “Why Rams?” Rama chuckled till   his abdomen hurt. “Who told you to do abs on periods?” Ramaa winked Rama twisted her right arm. Ramaa left eye went red with rage and she loosened the group and punched him hard in the ribs. “Bitch!” he groaned and sat there holding his abdomen, sore with the punches of yesterday. **

warrior women

Image
/dedicated to the men in our family/ I opine that TV shows, warrior films and war heroes across the world should be captured with subtlety and every generation must know the heroes we all grew up with. While rom-coms and action heroes give us an adrenaline rush, the real heroes who once lived among us, give us a sense of purpose. I look forward to movies inspired by Subhash Chandra Bose, Indira Gandhi, Chacha Nehru, Rabindranath Tagore, the founding fathers of America esp. James Madison. Since the list would not end, I would like to limit my quest to warrior women through the shows and movies I liked and loved. In the movie, Bahubali 2, Anushka Shetty is a powerhouse; her grace and her subtle emotions make her a wonder woman. She may not be a demure lady who conveys her emotions through hips that don't lie or her body through sleeveless-tight-fit shirts. Of course: Prabhas compliments her well. Interestingly, Wonder Woman is an epitome of grace and subtlety; her per...

On evenings like these..

On evenings like these, i miss my home -- decked in snow and hope. Awaiting: a brighter sky; an ice-free drive ** freezing hands that shovel the snow to clothe it in the warmth of the heat from the electric stove, which is otherwise declared pointless for our gravies and curries. thermals that cover the beer bellies and cheesey flabs; crooked smiles that assure that you are a co-conspirator and a confidante in the secrets of the snow. ** the sleeves of the starbucks beside my home that i wish to paint on with memories from the starbucks of my Indian city - here the coffee shop is a hub of chatter. the roads that are now dark with ambition and the busy people deep into their gadgets avoiding eye contact to assure that they are insulated from small talk. ** On evenings like these, I miss my home - decked in snow and hope. Awaiting: a brighter sky ; an ice-free drive

The World of Knowledgable Idiots and Emotional Fools

Image
/this is dedicated to my father and my family who have taught me that life is about 'giving'/ What does education do to you? The biggest question and problem lies within the lack of moral compass. The biggest equation is hidden and we focus on mundane laws and principles. The biggest motivation should be derived from self. 'Knowledgeable idiot' is a term used by my Bhabhi, Sunita. I found the term particularly interesting because I knew that I would be using it often. I find engineers with no emotional balance. I find men and women with inadequate resources, stable. I find cab drivers and illiterate people, balanced. Hyderabad and Delhi are super emotional. We lack the tenacity to perform like a donkey but we have the pride to question. We are a land of emotional fools. Firstly, both these spaces have been governed by Mughals and rules with Tehzeeb . This rules out any possibility of slavery and bowing to the higher caste. You will never fail to recognise a Hy...

Gamut of Life

Image
The biggest reason for a human to commit suicide is "Parents" - unknown source The most popular reasons being: lack of a hobby or being living in the moment. As Master Oogway says, "Yesterday was past - it is history; Tomorrow is unknown - it is mystery; Today is a gift - that is why it is called the present" We are all empaths and a deep study and an article on the same reveals that "our wiring gets disoriented due to the political landscape and environment around us" Last year - 2017 had been particularly hard as the male ego of several male members I know was harmful to the female psyche with Trump, Modi and the Gauri Lankesh Case. As Hyderabadis, we are trained to deal with stress. Our land is full of empaths, healers. The winner's loneliness syndrome:   Whenever a winner achieves a peak, he is bored and he doesn't live in the moment. For those of us, deep into theology, we have a balance. In the movie, Munnabhai MBBS - 2, Sanja...
